About Us
In 2016, Carl Momberger, originally running a catering kitchen in Washington County, OR, discovered the tayberry, a hybrid of raspberry and blackberry, during a search for unique produce. Intrigued by its rarity and price, he visited Hoffman Farms, just three miles away, to learn more. The tayberry’s fragile nature led him to create jam, sparking a passion for preserving fruits.
Practices
Carl began making and selling jams under the name Golden Eel Jams in 2017, with a focus on tayberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries. In 2018, he launched a subscription service, producing over 30 jam flavors. By 2020, the business rebranded as Big Jalm, with a focus on using their family-grown fruit to create delicious preserves.
